A new insulin and it lives up to it’s promises!!! It ‘s arrived :)

 

I posted this shortly after the pre launch of ryzodeg last year, I have subsequently used this to great great great success – happiness of doctor as well as delight of patients. If you are on insulin you have to consider using this!!!

Wow! What a wonderful weekend in cape town. Cape town never disappoints!

An introduction to ryzodeg/deglucdec – not this is not gobbledegook language, its the name of a wonderful new insulin about to launch in south africa.

Long ! have we waited for an insulin that solves the current issues we have : hypoglycaemia, weight gain, less variability, better predictability.

And it is here : degludeg and ryzodeg!

So what on earth is that? Degludeg is a long acting insulin that has a predictable absorption i.e. it does not accumulate and its dose so to speak is the dose – what you inject is what you get without risk of hypos (far less). No stacking. Yay!!

Ryzodeg is even more exciting : it is a long acting combined with a short acting. Thus you can dose it twice a day and use a short acting for the missing meal or have no carbs on the in-between meal. Although degludec lasts for 48 hours it does not stack thus you reach a steady state and do not have a risk of a hypo.

What does this translate to : less weight gain! with insulin. Less defensive snacking. Less fitting your life as to how your insulin works. More quality of life.

Yes this is what we have been waiting for. 🙂
